Damascus Equine Associates is a group of independent practitioners who work together to provide twenty-four hour, seven day a week emergency service to our clients. With each doctor having an area of interest and specialization, we can offer a variety of services within our group.
Members share an outpatient clinic in Mount Airy, MD. The members share use of the clinic, emergency coverage, as well as equipment. The practice area covers all of Howard and Montgomery counties, and parts of Carroll and Frederick counties in Maryland.
Dr. Roger Scullin began an equine practice in Montgomery County in 1970 after serving in the Army. During his first year in practice, Peter Radue rode along with Dr. Scullin during high school.
In 1979, Dr. Peter Radue joined him to form Damascus Equine Associates after finishing a one year internship in large animal surgery.
Dr. Josephine Magurn practiced with DEA from 1981-1993 when she moved to Virginia Beach and opened her own practice.
Dr. Michael Erskine became a member of DEA in 1990 after practicing in Pennsylvania for two years.
After traveling the world with the Peace Corps and other service groups, Dr. James Lewis spent a few years working with various practices in the United States before joining DEA in 1993.
Dr. Rory Carolan practiced with DEA from 1999-2007 when he joined the US Army.
Dr. Amy Polkes began her practice in Maryland in 2000 and began consulting on internal medicine cases for DEA.
Until the mid-1990s, the members of DEA ran the practice at Dr. Scullin’s house. There they performed orthopedic surgeries under general anesthesia in addition to their own ambulatory practices. 2005 marked the completion of the DEA clinic on Dr. Radue’s property in Mount Airy, MD.
Dr. Megan Snyder became an associate of DEA in 2011 after finishing a one year internship with Dr. Michael Erskine.
Dr. Suzanne Welker started her one year internship position with Dr. Michael Erskine in June 2011.
Dr. Edward Radue joined the practice June 2016 after completing an internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine in New Jersey
